By Kimberly Henson as a guest writer What is a nose bit? Most people are familiar with the nose ring. It is a metal ring that is pierced through a bovine’s septum. Nose rings are commonly used on bulls for added control. The nose bit is made of two little rings attached to a bolt. The nose bit was invented by Darol Dickinson (in the 1990s I believe) to be used on Texas Longhorn bull Zhivago. The nose bit was created to improve upon a few issues with using a ring for steering.

I pray I don't jinx this, but so far we are 100% heifers with four of four calves so far heifers. This is unprecedented for us as up to this we have gotten one or two heifers each year and overloads of steers. But starting off with a set of twin heifers followed by two more we are excited. There are several cows due before we break for summer to our fall calving so we shall see if this streak holds up. I wonder about the reason and know the bull has a lot to do with it. These

Well do I have a story to tell on myself. Just when you begin to think your something of a real weekend cowboy one of your cows goes and makes you look like a goat rancher! Ok no offense to you goat people surely you have tougher hides, i've heard the language used when one gets out again. Back to my story.
